Goto's statement to Tokyo District Court - Part 1

Mr.Toru Goto (victim of 12 years and 5 months confinement) filed a civil suit in Feb. 2011.

There were already two hearings in Tokyo District Court.  First hearing was held on Mar. 22, 2011 followed by May 17 session. They were basically for submission of the documents and to determine the next hearing dates.  (Next two sessions will be held on Aug.16 and Oct.11, 2011)

Goto (Plaintiff) submitted complaint, brief(preparatory writing) and statement. The defendants submitted defendant's answer to the complaint and statement.

Support Committee for Toru Goto't Court Case has published all the documents submitted to the court on its website. It includes the defendant's side documents. http://antihogosettoku.blog111.fc2.com/

I've decided to translate the documents uploaded in the Support Committee's website into English, so people in the world would know what's happening on the civil case.

Already many documents from both parties were submitted to the court.  I skip some earlier submitted documents, and I've picked up the Goto's statement which should be one of the most important documents in the case.

                 1. Personal History

    Mr. Toru Goto
I was born in Yonezawa-shi, Yamagata on Nov 2, 1963 as a 2nd son.  My father was born on Nov 25, 1931 and deceased on June 22, 1997.  My mother was born on Dec 10, 1932, currently 78 years old.  I have an elder brother (born on March 28, 1961, currently 50 years old) and a younger sister (Feb 14, 1967, currently 43 years old)

I entered Oonoda Primary School of Musashino city in Tokyo.  I was transferred to Hoya Daiichi Primary School of Hoya city in Tokyo, and graduated from the same in March 1976.

I entered Seiran Junior High School of Hoya city.  I was transferred to Yachiyo Daini Junior High School of Yachiyo city in Kumamoto, and graduated from the same in March 1979.

I entered Hikawa Senior High School of Kumamoto in April 1979, and graduated from the same in March 1982.

I started the Architecture course at the Science and Engineering Department of Nihon University, and graduated from the same in March 1987.
I was employed by Taisei Construction Corporation in April 1987.

    2.
        2. Joining Unification Church

I was taken to a Video Center in Okachimachi, Tokyo accompanied by my brother when I was in the 4th year at the university.  The center was called a Video Center which was operated by the followers of the Holy Spirit Association of the Unification of the World Christianity (Unification Church).  My brother had already become a member of the church when he invited me to learn the teachings.  I was not so keen to learn. But I gave in to my brother’s enthusiasm and commuted to the Video Center.

I learned the Divine Principle, which is the doctrine of the Unification Church via the video presentation and also by attending 3-day-seminar and 4-day-seminar.

At that time I was in the 4th year at University, soon to be a member of society, and such time should have been a time filled with hope.  However, I felt depressed to hear of the wars, crimes or divorces.  I didn’t like my selfishness and I was struggling as I could not find hope and value in life.  I couldn’t talk to anyone about my internal suffering which had no definite answer.  During the holiday at university, I used to meditate at a fasting center in Fujisawa city, Kanagawa.

The Divine Principle, which my brother introduced to me had a strong impact in my struggling situation.  Existence of God, the purpose of the creation of God is realization of love and joy, the relationship between God and human being is parents and child, the cause of unhappiness and sin is caused by fall of man, human history is the history of restoration, and so on.  The Divine Principle made me understand clearly the purpose and value of my life.  It gave me hope when I was struggling in despair.  It revived my dying soul to new life with uplifting joyfulness.  I decided to join the Unification Church.

After attending the church seminars, I belonged to a university students’ organization called “Student Department”.  I lived together with other members at the church center called “Home”.  My brother witnessed my sister to the church.  She was a college student.  She learned the Divine Principle at the Video Center near her college, and she joined the church.

I graduated from the architecture course of the Science and Engineering Department of Nihon University in March 1987, and was employed by Taisei Construction Corporation in April 1987.  I lived at the Okachimachi center (Home) and commuted to work.

    3.       3. First Confinement

In 1987, deprogramming operations were frequently occurring influenced by mass media’s report.  In May 1987, my brother was kidnapped, confined and he was forced into the deprogramming process when he was on his way to visit the parents home.

My brother said to me that his father met him on the way to his home.  My brother thought “it’s very unusual that my father welcomes me on the way home.” And he was walking home with his father.  As soon as father’s hand touched his body, father shouted “NOW”.  Then strangers from a hiding place suddenly jumped out and attacked him, and pushed him into a waiting van.

When the van stopped at the train crossing, my brother jumped out of the window.  Then he scuffled with father and his supporters.  Someone reported to police, and they were taken to the police station.  Though my brother claimed that he was kidnapped and asked for desperate help from the police, the police listened to his father and he was taken the confinement site in the car.

    Deprogrammer - Takashi Miyamura
One of the deprogrammers of my brother was Takashi Miyamura, who is a managing director of an advertisement company called Tap Co. Ltd.  Later this Miyamura was involved in my 2nd kidnapping and confinement.  At that time Miyamura coordinated with Christian minister, Satoshi Moriyama of Jesus Christ Church of Japan in Ogikubo, and the Ogikubo church became their base.  They were asked by some parents to break their children's faith ofthe Unification Church.

Some parents were on a waiting list.  And during the waiting period, the parents were trained the method of kidnapping, confinement and breaking faith.  Miyamura organized a parents meeting called “Suikei Kai”.  In the Suikei Kai, there was a system that the parents who were successful in deprogramming their children help the parents having a turn in kidnapping and taking children to the confinement room near the Okikubo Eiko Church, then Miyamura visited the confinement site for deprogramming purpose.  Later I had a chance to look at the list, and I saw many parents names filled out.  I heard that the last line of the waiting list is in a few hundreds.

After my brother left church, he became to support Miyamura to deprogram the church members.  Also he was employed by Tap Co. Ltd., and my brother became Miyamura’s assistant.  My parents request to deprogram me was almost at the far end of the list.  My brother later said to me that the turn for my deprogramming became quicker by jumping the queue as my brother supported Miyamura’s deprogramming with enthusiasm.

At that time, I worried so much about my brother and even I couldn’t sleep at night as he went missing after he had gone home.  I looked for him everywhere I could, from home to Christian church, which is said my brother stayed, but I couldn’t find him.

In Oct 1987, my father contacted me and said my brother wanted to see me, and told to come to Shinjuku.  I worried that I would be kidnapped, so two Unification Church members (men) followed me.  I followed my father to the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku.  I got on an elevator, but the two men were separated.  I was taken to a room in higher level.  My brother was waiting, and said, "I’ve decided to leave the church.  I want you to learn what I learned."

The room of the Shinjuku Keio Plaza Hotel

I noticed that some work was done on the door of the room, so the door does not open from inside.  Therefore I couldn’t go out to the hallway from the room.  The hotel suite has 2 rooms adjacent each other and connected by a door.  The entrance and exit to and from the suite was done through the next room.  Of course the purpose of this arrangement was to prevent me from escaping.  It was very shocking for me that my brother called me to the hotel to confine and deprogram me.

Soon after, Takashi Miyamura visited the room accompanying former Unification Church members.  In one instance, Miyamura asked one of his men, “What is the existence of Sun Myung Moon for you?” The man replied, “Like this” pointing at the cigarette butts which heavy smoker Miyamura left in the ashtray.  I can’t forget the sense of humiliation when the man ridiculed me by saying so. The man’s face was filled with insult.  I was furious about the deceptive confinement and I locked myself in the toilet, and shouted, “Get me out of here.  Help.”  The door was opened from outside, and I got dragged out of the toilet.  I scuffled with my father and brother, but I was outnumbered and they overpowered me.

While I was forced to listen to their critics against the church or church doctrine by Miyamaura and the former UC members, I got the urge to break the window by throwing a chair.  I lifted a chair up, but I stopped short of doing it as I thought it may have hit the passersby.  As I was forced to listen to the defamation against the church and the church founder, I experienced unbearable pain.  After a few days later, I thought I was not able to get out if I kept the faith.  And I pretended to abandon my faith against my will.

    Ogikubo Eiko Church

About a week later, I was taken to an apartment room in Ogikubo, Sugunami-ku from the Keio Plaza Hotel.I was confined in the apartment for almost a month.  I had to attend the church service at the Ogikubo Eiko  Chruch with constant supervision of my parents and brother.  Also I was forced to visit the nearby apartment where a UC church member was confined for deprogramming purpose.

I wanted to help the church member in front of me who was suffering from the ongoing deprogramming process under the forceful confinement.  But I had to give up my intention because I thought I had to go through more relentless confinement and deprogramming process if my pretension to leave church was discovered.

Many former UC members who left the church as a result of deprogramming by Miyamura and Moriyama were attending the meeting at the Ogikubo Eiko Church.  Some members among them were actively supporting Miyamura’s deprogramming operations like my brother.  At one time, I was forced to attend the Suikei Kai meeting held at a house just opposite side of the Ogikubo Eiko Church, and I witnessed one scene that the Miyamura was instructing parents how kidnapping and confinement could help children get out of the group.

In April of that year, I entered a company as a newly graduated employee, and assigned to the construction site in Funabashi, Chiba as a site supervisor.  But I was kidnapped all of sudden, I could not contact the company.  And I was not allowed to contact the company during the confinement and I was always under constant scrutiny.   I was forced to be absent from the work for many weeks, and I felt pain to cause my company trouble.

Towards the end of November in 1987, I was looking for a chance to escape.  When I attended the Sunday service at the Ogikubo Eiko Church, I ran away from the church building by pretending to go the toilet, and escaped to the Unification Church Center.

    4.       4. After Escape from First Confinement

I was scared of another kidnapping attempt by my family after I returned to the center.  I asked the church to transfer me to another department from the original department which my brother knew.  I named “Yuuji Suzuki” and I could not tell my family where I was, and I was in hiding.  When I saw a van sitting on the street, I was extremely fearful with the feeling that someone may have jumped out from a hiding place, attacked me and taken me to the van.

In fact, at that time, many Unification Church members were reported missing all of sudden.  For 3 years from 1990 to 1992, 941 members went missing.  233 members out of 941 returned to the church.  According to the survey of the 233 members, they were kidnapped and confined against their will in an attempt to break their faith.  In 1992, only 1 year, there were 375 missing members.  Average of more than 1 member were kidnapped and confined daily.

“Why do I have to be frightened with the fear like medieval witch hunt in modern Japan which guarantees the religious freedom?”  While I lamented the situation, I had no relaxed time, fearing “I may be kidnapped today.”

I wished to go back to work for the company I joined in Spring.  But if I went back to work, my family would know where I was.  I couldn’t go back to work because of the fear that I may be kidnapped again.  I had no other way than to resign the company, and I was involved in the church work such as witnessing or educational activities in the church community.

I worried about my sister at that time as my brother and myself were kidnapped in a row.  And the worry came true.  At the beginning of 1989, my sister was kidnapped and left the church.  I was stung with remorse for a while after that because I could not protect her from coercive faith breaking.

My brother joined anti Unification Church movement which Miyamura organized after he left the church.  He filed a law suit at the Tokyo District Court against the Unification Church so called “lost youth” case in 1991.

In August, I attended a church wedding ceremony of 30,000 couples held in Seoul, South Korea with a lady (Goto’s first fiancee) follower of the Unification Church.  The wedding ceremony is the ceremony where we pledge that we will build a peaceful family with the eternal partner for the future, and of course it’s my desire.  But my fiancee left the church after she went through a coercive faith breaking process done by her family.

Many months have passed since my first kidnapping/confinement.  I was cautious for the chance of 2nd kidnapping, but I thought things would remain unsettled.  I started to talk with my family over the phone, sent letters to them and gave presents on their birthdays.  Around 1992, my father said to me , "I won’t do such a thing again." in an over the phone conversation.  He promised not to do it again.  Then I let him know where I was, and I was able to communicate with my family members while they opposed my faith of the Unification Church.

My brother married a woman in Jan. 1995. The brother's wife was a former Unification Church member, who was kidnapped and confined by her family members, deprogrammed by Miyamura and Yasutomo Matsunaga (Christian minister of Niitsu Church, Japan Alliance Christ Church).  After she left church, she became involved with anti Unification Church activities, and she lodged a “lost youth” lawsuit at Niigata District Court in 1991.

I attend at the 360,000 couple's  wedding ceremony in Seoul, South Korea with my 2nd fiancee.  I was then 31 years old in Aug 1995.  I was thinking of quitting the church work while keeping the faith of Unification Church and finding a job to prepare for married life and for the future.  However I was kidnapped and confined again in Sep 1995, I could not find a job, and I could not start a married life with my fiancee.

Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction - Story Behind Unjust Arrest

A man was unjustly arrested in Tokyo by the Japanese police. The man has faith in the Unification Church.  Japanese media reported the arrest, but it lacks important information behind the incident.  This blog reveals the unreported facts behind it.

This article is based on the Mr. Kazuhiro Yonemoto’s articles in his blog.

Mr. Yonemoto is an investigative reporter who published a book in 2009 called “Our Unpleasant Neighbours” (A story of a woman’s tragedy who was “rescued” from the Unification Church.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Major Japanese media reported on Feb 7, 2011 that a Unification Church member in Japan, Mr. Takashi Usami was arrested on suspicion of violating Stalker Regulation Law by the Public Safety Bureau of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

Here is the newspaper article.  (Mainichi Shimbun Daily Newspaper on Feb 8, 2011.)   http://mainichi.jp/select/jiken/news/20110208k0000m040007000c.html
All the major media reported, but they had almost same contents.

--------------- Start of the newspaper article ---------------------
The Public Safety Bureau of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department announced on Feb 7, 2011 that they arrested Takashi Usami (42, Member of the Unification Church) of Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture under suspicion of stalking a woman (36) who he met at the church’s mass wedding ceremony.  Usami denied the suspicion, saying it was not stalking activities.

According to the Public Bureau of the Police Department, Usami and the woman were engaged at the Unification Church Wedding Ceremony held in Korea in Feb 2007.  The woman left the church in Dec 2008, then cancelled the engagement, and repeated to change the residence.  Takashi Usami is suspected on stalking activities as he waited in ambush for the woman, walked together, and demanded to talk for 5 times between Jun 8, 2010 and Nov 28, 2010 in Shinjuku and Suginami (both in Tokyo).  It is said that Usami and the woman was engaged in the church ceremony, but the woman left the church after the church wedding.

It is said that a GPS mobile phone unit which was registered under Usami’s name was fit underneath the body of her car, and it was transmitted 760 times between Oct 1, 2010 and Oct 14, 2010 to relay the location.  The Public Safety Bureau searched the Usami’s house, and seized more than 80 items such as writing pads or PC.

The woman filed a complaint in Ogikubo Police Office on Jan 13, 2011, and the Bureau is carefully investigating the organized involvement as there’s possibility of stalking activities to other women.
-------------------------- End of the newspaper article ----------------------

There are important facts missing (or intentionally omitted) in the newspaper article.  The missing fact is that the woman was kidnapped and confined for deprogramming purpose, and 10 months later she renounced the church and cancelled the engagement.

You may remember the article of 6 weeks ago in this blog.  It is about Ms MA who was kidnapped and confined in an apartment, but escaped by climbing down an electric pole.   As soon as Ms MA was kidnapped and confined in an apartment room, deprogrammer Miyamura visited the Ms MA’s confinement site.  Miyamura brought 3 women.  1 of the women is the woman who alleges that she was stalked.  The woman will be mentioned Ms K in this blog.http://humanrightslink.blogspot.com/2011/01/another-kidnapping-on-new-years-day-but.html

Relating Facts of Ms K and Mr. Usami
    •  Feb 2007:
The woman (Ms K) & Mr. Usami attended the Unification Church Wedding and they were matched (engaged).
    • Jan 2008:
Ms K was kidnapped and confined to break her faith.  Takashi Miyamura was   a deprogrammer.
    • Dec 2008:
Ms K renounced the church and cancelled the engagement.
    • Jun 8, 2010 to Nov 28, 2010:
Ms K alleges that Mr. Usami stalked her for 5 times.
    • Nov 28, 2010
Mr. Usami saw and talked to Ms K for 1 minute.
    • Jan 2, 2011:
Ms K appeared together with deprogrammer Miyamura at the apartment where Ms MA was confined.
    • Jan 13, 2011:
Ms K submitted a written complaint against Usami in Ogikubo Police.
    • Feb 7, 2011:
      Mr. Usami was arrested.
Mr. Usami is still under custody of the Police.  Mr. Yonemoto visited the Police Office and he could talked to Mr. Usami for 20 minutes on Feb 15, 2011 to clarify the details.  The following facts were revealed.

    Police accuses him that he stalked Ms K for 5 times.  Mr. Usami explained as follows;

Mr. Usami followed Ms K’s parent’s car using the GPS system fitted to Ms K’s parent’s car, and reached at the Shinjuku 1-15-9 area.  Mr. Usami saw Ms K’s parents entering into a building.  There’s Ms K’s lawyer (Mr. Hiroshi Yamaguchi)’s office in the building.  But Mr. Usami never saw Ms K.  2 more similar incidents followed.  So Mr. Usami even did not see Ms K for the first 3 incidents.

    Then what happened to the 4th time?  Mr. Usami explained;

Ms K’s father’s car moved towards the Ogikubo 1-33 in Suginami area, and Mr. Usami followed it.  Then Mr. Usami witnessed that Ms K and her parents walked into a ground floor room of a small apartment.  Then Mr. Usami was walking around the area, and he saw Ms K walking by herself.  He said he was so nervous that he could not approach to her.  Mr. Usami

    Mr. Usami saw Ms K walking, but did not talk to her. This was the 4th time.  Then what was the 5th time.  Mr. Usami continued;

The 5th incident happened in Nov 2010.  GPS stopped working by then.  Mr. Usami decided to go to the area of the apartment. He saw a car stopping in front of the apartment with the engine running, and 2 or 3 women getting into the car.  Mr. Usami followed the car.  The car stopped in front of the Mr. Miyamura’s house (the deprogrammer’s house).  But he didn’t follow the car because he thought Ms K was not in the car.

Truth Is stranger than fiction.  Mr. Usami decided to go to the Sauna (bath) in the area.  The reception is on the ground floor level, and sauna area is upstairs.   He was sitting in the chair.  To his surprise, the deprogrammer Miyamura and 3 or 4 women passed just in front of him.  And he saw Ms K among them.  Miyamura shouted, “What the hell are you doing here?” 2 women screamed at him, “I sue you for stalking”.  Mr. Usami didn’t say anything.

Mr. Usami went into the bath area and confronted Mr. Miyamura.  Mr. Usami asked Miyamura,”Can I talk to Ms K?”  Miyamura replied “No”.

Mr. Usami didn’t give up.  He waited in the sofa by the reception.  Then Ms K came down from upstairs by herself.  It was first time in 3 years to see face to face.  There was conversation for 1 minute.  Ms K said, “It was over.  Didn’t I send you a letter in the autumn 2 years ago?”   Mr. Usami was finally able to confirm Ms K’s cancellation of the engagement from her directly.  It ended his “confirmation process” (to confirm Ms K’s decision from her mouth directly).

    Are his behaviours stalking behaviours?

No, they are not.  First 3 incidents, Mr. Usami even didn’t see her.  At the 4th time, he saw her, but didn’t talk to her nor confront her to demand something.  Only at the 5th time which was Nov 2011, they talked each other for 1 minute.  As Mr. Usami confirmed her decision directly from her, he stopped to look for her whereabouts.

Mr. Usami and Ms K were engaged in the church ceremony in Feb 2007.  And I suppose they had communicated with each other to develop relationships until Ms K was kidnapped and confined in an attempt to break her faith. Ms K disappeared completely from Mr. Usami all of sudden.  What would you do in this situation?  Mr. Usami was desperate to look for her and “rescue” her from the captors.

Ms K sent a letter to Mr. Usami in Dec 2008, notifying her cancellation of the engagement after 11 months of sudden disappearance.  In such confinement situation, victims often pretend to renounce the faith in order to be freed.  There are many cases in deprogramming process that victims are forced to do something against their will.  Victims have to follow the deprogrammers instruction during the “pretending” period, otherwise they fear that they are confined in a prison type room again or forever.  Even if Mr. Usami received a letter from Ms K, he needed to confirm her decision directly from her.

During the period of “stalking activities” mentioned in the newspaper, he was desperate to look for Ms K to confirm her decision.  Imagine you have a engaged partner, and the partner disappeared all of sudden from you, and you received a piece of paper telling you your partner cancelled the engagement.  Don’t you want to hear directly from the partner?  Even if it was just for 1 minute, Mr. Usami heard from Ms K face to face.  This ended Mr. Usami’s confirmation process and he did not have to look for her anymore.  Mr. Usami’s action is the action in the confirmation process, not stalking behaviours which are normally driven by feelings of hate/loneliness as a result of love.   If he chased Ms K after the confrimation process, it could be regarded as stalking behaviour.

To fit a GPS unit on someone's car is criminal?

There’s no law in Japan to directly regulate fitting the GPS unit on someone’s car.  Mr. Yonemoto’s lawyer replied to him, “There’s no law to regulate.  It is not illegal to fit GPS unit on someone’s car.”  In fact Mr. Usami said that the police are not interested in the GPS.

    This is an unjust arrest.

Mr. Usami said that he wishes the prosecutors formally indict him so he can fight the charges at the court.  If so, more details of the deprogrammers’ activities will be revealed, which could help deprogramming practice in Japan cease quicker.

I strongly support Mr. Usami.  He’s still kept in custody in Ogikubo Police. The detention may continue until Mar 2 which is the legal limit of the detention period.  I would like to support his lone fight against lies.  He also needs your support.

If you wish to write to him directly, send to the Police Office.  I suggest you should send by post card.  Letter takes longer before reaching him as the police sensors it.  Also I suggest you should use plain Enlgish, so Mr. Usami (and also the police) can understand easily.  Your letter/card may arrive after Mr. Usami is released. No guarantee if police will forward the letters to his residential address if reaching after the release.

    Goto Takes Deprogrammers to Court

It was announced on Feb 3, 2011, that Mr. Goto filed civil suit in Tokyo District Court demanding damage compensation of 200 million Yen  (= US$2.4 Million) against a deprogrammer Takashi MIYAMURA, a Christian Minster Yasutomo MATSUNAGA and relatives.

Mr. Goto (picture–right) was confined for 12 years and 5 months (Sep.11, 1995 - Feb.10, 2008) against his will in an attempt to abandon his faith.

The Tokyo Prosecutors Office failed to indict the deprogrammers in Dec 2009. Insufficient evidence was the reason.   The Tokyo No 4 Committee for the Inquest of Prosecution decided on Oct 6, 2010 that the Prosecutor’s Non-Indictment decision was appropriate. This ended the chance of criminal trial.

Mr Goto is now seeking civil trial.

In America, civil cases had stronger impacts than criminal cases.

In Eilers case, the grand jury dismissed all the charges brought against deprogrammers.  But in the civil case in 1984, the judge stated that “there is no question that the plaintiff was actually confined”.

In Scott’s criminal case (1993), the deprogrammer Rick Ross ended in acquittal.  But in the civil case (1995), Scott was awarded almost US5 million in damage compensation and punitive compensation from deprogrammer Rick Ross, his assistants and CAN, which brought CAN out of business.

Korean Man Sent a Letter to his Fiancee's Parents

I reported the kidnapping/confinement case of Ms T (36) at my previous article.
The Religious Kidnapping & Forced Conversion Victim's Association in Tokyo reported that the Mr. Lee sent a letter to his fiancee's parents, and the website uploaded the letter in Korean and its Japanese translation.

I translated the letter into English.  Please note the English translation below is done by myself based on the Japanese translation, and it is not official translation.

The Letter Mr. Lee sent to his fiancee's parents, translated by Yoshi from translated Japanese (Original letter is in Korean.)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dear T’s Parents,

Hello, I’m Lee Jang-Hee.  I should come and see you for the greetings, but please forgive me to write to you.

Let me introduce myself briefly.  I was born at a small village in Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-Do as the youngest son. I have 4 brothers and one sister.  We all grew up happily together with a strict father and a loving mother even though we were not rich.

My father died when I was in the year 8 (2nd year in the junior high school).  It was shocking experience to me.  We all moved to Kwanju where my elder brother lived.  And I received education up to University in Kwanju, and now I live in my brother’s home with my mother.

When I was a student, my mother used to tell me not to cause someone trouble.   I’m still keeping my mother’s word, and I now have important roles at the workplace and in society.  I’m working for the biggest bus company in Korea.

I was introduced to the Unification Church through my senior friend, and I chose to be a member of the Church and I started to pray for my family.  I met Ms T in 2008 introduced by the church, and we attended a church wedding ceremony.  I was not interested in marriage personally, but the church taught me the value and meaning of family, which made me decide to join this church.

When I met Ms T at the airport for the first time, she was very beautiful with an intellectual atmosphere. I felt as if I was dreaming. I fell in love at first sight.  I became to know that she has an angelic heart as our relationships were deepened.  I think her beautiful heart is from her parents’ education, and I became to respect you.

Our love has grown since the engagement in Japan.  The more I know her, the more I’m convinced that she is my eternal partner. I can feel a loving and respectful heart within her.  People around me tell me that Ms T resembles me. I feel it is like fate linked by heaven, which we live on for the rest of the life.  Even if we don’t speak same language, there’s always love and respect for each other.  I certainly love Ms T who is so beautiful like an angel.  But I can’t see her, I can’t even hear her voice.  How can I express my heart?

    Dear respected Ms T’s parents!

I hear that International Seminar “Religious Freedom and Human Rights” was held in Japan on Nov 29 – Dec 2 last year.  Japan is the most advanced nation in Asia, and has high standard in economy and culture internationally. I have to be bewildered by the fact that religious freedom is violated in Japan.  Korea, which is behind Japan does not kidnap and confine someone because of the religious faith.

    Dearest Father and  Mother,

I suppose you two loved each other and married.  Ms T and I love each other across national boundaries.  I don’t understand why I don’t even know where she is.  I do my best so I can receive your love as you love your daughter.  This is my expression from my bottom of my heart, not just in the letter.  I will love your daughter more than any other person, and I promise we build a happy family.  Also it is my joy to be a good son of yours as I lost my father when I was young.  I prepared for an apartment to move to in Feb and planned and dreamed lots of things.  And unpredictable things happened.

I suppose you married because you loved each other.  If you look back at your heart at that time, I believe you understand our love.  I really want to see Ms T.  Even just want to hear her voice.  Please let me have a chance to do so.

I ask you again.  We love each other.  Please do not tear our love.

I will write to you again.
    Good Bye.

A Korean Man Got Down to his Knees to Ask Relatives to Allow him to See his Fiancee.

An investigative reporter, Mr Yonemoto reported another case of abduction/confinement case in his blog today.
    http://yonemoto.blog63.fc2.com/blog-entry-242.html

I strongly believe that spreading such information would be the important step to resolve the issue.   Thanks to Mr Yonemoto's report, here are the details of the abduction and confinement.

This article here is based on Mr Yonemoto's report.

    Victim's Details:
    Name: Ms. TT(36)
    Place: Tokyo
Date of Confinement: Around 2010-12-12  and still under confinement
    Deprogrammer: Not known

Ms TT attended the Unification Church wedding ceremony in 2009 and was matched with Korean man, Mr. J.H. LEE.  Mr. Lee is a bus driver in kwangju, South Korea.  Ms TT and Mr Lee have corresponded each other by emails and letters, and developed relationships and decided to marry.

Ms TT moved to Korea in Oct 2010 to learn Korean traditions before starting married life.  They planned to start the married life on Feb 27, 2011.  Mr. Lee also purchased an apartment to be ready for it.

Ms TT returned to Japan to renew the visa on Dec 10, 2010, and visited parents on Dec 12.  And then she had a plan to visit her uncle and aunt in Shizuoka (1 hour form Tokyo by bullet train towards west).  She was supposed to meet her church friends in Tokyo on Dec 15.  But Ms TT did not show up.  The church friends worried and visited the parent's home to find no one there.  It was suspected Ms TT was abducted.

Mr Lee flew to Japan, and visited parents home, but no one there.  He visited Shizuoka where her relatives live.  Their response was cold, just saying "We don't know. We don't know."  Even he got down to his knees to ask their support at their door step, asking them "he wants to see her".

Mr. Lee visited Korean Embassy in Japan and also the police office near her parents home to ask their support.  Police initially did not respond by saying it's "family matters", but later accepted the request to search for a missing person.  Mr Lee returned to Korea in vain with tears on Dec 29, 2011.

Another Kidnapping on New Year's Day, but Victim Escaped.

Another kidnapping/confinement attempt occurred on the New Years Day in Tokyo.

    Victim's Details:
    Name: Ms. MA (32)
    Place: Tokyo
    Date of Confinement: 2011-01-01
    Date of Escape: 2011-01-03
    Deprogrammer: Mr. Takashi MIYAMURA

    How the Confinement Occurred:
Ms MA visited her parents home on Jan 1. (New Year Season in Japan is traditionally the family's reunion time to visit parents and to meet each other.) Not only her relatives, but her teachers from her kinder and junior high school were there.

Father: Let's go to another place, so we can discuss without any interruption.
    Daughter: Where are we going?
Father: Don't worry.  It's the place where you know.

She got in the car under unavoidable situation.  Her mobile phone was confiscated. Then she arrived at a 3rd floor apartment around 2am on Jan 2.

    Deprogrammer's Appearance:
2pm on the same day (Jan 2)*, a deprogrammer Takashi MIYAMURA came in the apartment with his 3 assistants who were former Unification Church members and denounced the church after experiencing the deprogramming process. Ms MA did not know 2 of them, but one of them was her former "Mother" figure in the church, who used to be MA's trainer and the "able" figure in the church terminology.

(* The following paragraph added later)
It was found that 2pm appearance was their 2nd one.  Their 1st appeaarance was around 2am or 3am on Jan 2, 2011, just after Ms MA arrived at the apartment. (Source of information: http://yonemoto.blog63.fc2.com/blog-entry-238.html )

    How she Escaped:
Around 2am on Jan 3, she sneaked out to the veranda and managed to reach the electric pole by risking her life, which was still more than a meter away, and descended to the ground.  Then she grabbed a taxi, and returned to the church at 4am.

The apartment where she was taken.
It seems she was taken to the far left room on the 3rd floor behind the electric pole.

The pole she managed to reach from the veranda (the pole in the middle). A lady who visited the scene described that she couldn't believe what Ms MA did as the distance between the pole and the veranda was around 1 meter. Mr. Harada, the owner of website publishing the photos says the scene made him extremely scary.

Ms MA managed to escape without any accident/injury.  But in the past, there were some victims who tried to escape from the confinement apartment.  The higher floor apartment is systematically rented for the deprogramming purpose.  One victim (man) tried to escape from 5th floor and fell to the ground and had brain damage and paralyzed.

The deprogrammer who appeared at the apartment is Mr. Takashi MIYUMURA, the professional deprogrammer doing almost 40 years. He is not an originator of the deprogramming in Japan, but he was one of the early days of deprogramming in Japan.  His violent methods could be compared to Ted Patrick, American Father of Deprogramming. This MIYAMURA was also a deprogrammer of Mr. Goto who survived 12 years and 5 months ordeal.

It is reported that the church senior members are working to restore the relationships between Ms MA and her parents.
